Conference Venue

Almada/Caparica

The 5th International Conference WASTES: Solutions, Treatments and Opportunities will take place at Caparica, Portugal, in the southern bank of the Tagus river, facing Lisbon.

Caparica region and the nearby city of Almada are in the meeting point between the Tagus river and the Atlantic Ocean, offering a mix of urban environments, historical areas, various universities, natural parks and public spaces.

In Almada, stands the Sanctuary of Cristo-Rei, with 110 meters of height, inspired by the monument of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. The figure of Christ opens his arms to Lisbon and welcomes hundreds of visitors.

Almada historical center, known as "Almada Velha", Cacilhas and Caparica, are locations where we can find several restaurants, bars and places of nocturnal fun.

The Baroque Casa da Cerca and its Center for Contemporary Art and the pleasant botanical garden, are some of the city “must see” venues. The historical Solar dos Zagalos, Capuchos Convent and The Castle of Almada with their rich heritage also deserve a visit. There are also several parks and gardens such as the Parque da Paz, Casa da Aroeira or Mata dos Medos.

Nearby is also one of the most popular bathing destinations of the country: Costa da Caparica, that extends for more than 13 km of excellent beaches, with restaurants and bars in the seafront, ready to welcome all those who love sun, sea, fresh fish and seafood.

Lisbon center is at 15 min driving distance and 10 min by train, so all the touristic and cultural offer of the capital is available for visitors.
